Dylan Larkin’s future with the Detroit Red Wings remains unresolved as trade discussions continue behind the scenes. The captain has reportedly become open to more potential destinations, giving Detroit a wider group of teams to consider in negotiations. However, finding a deal that works for both sides has been difficult, with the Red Wings focused on getting players who can help their roster now. A new report has provided more detail on the teams Larkin may consider as the situation develops.
Dylan Larkin’s Trade List Includes 10 NHL Teams
According to the Detroit Free Press, Larkin’s expanded list includes the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche.
Larkin had initially identified three destinations: Florida, Minnesota and Vegas. The addition of seven teams gives Detroit more potential trade partners, although the report does not mean a deal with any of them is close to being completed.
The Montreal Canadiens are not among the 10 teams, despite speculation surrounding the possibility of Larkin joining Montreal. Canadiens fans had also chanted “we want Larkin!” during a recent visit by the Red Wings, but the team was not in his reported list.
Larkin’s no-trade clause also gives him control over where he could be sent. Detroit cannot simply choose a destination without his approval, so any potential deal would need to fit both the team’s demands and the player’s wishes.
Insider Weighs In on Dylan Larkin Trade Talks
Although the expanded list gives Detroit more potential trade partners, the return remains a major obstacle. St. James reported that the Red Wings want players who can contribute now rather than a package made up mainly of prospects and draft picks.
TSN’s Darren Dreger previously reported that Detroit’s asking price included two A-quality prospects, a top-nine NHL forward and a first-round draft pick. Meeting those demands could prove difficult for teams that want to add Larkin without giving up important pieces of their current rosters.
He has one goal and three points in six games this season after missing training camp with an upper-body injury. The 30-year-old requested a trade in the spring, and the situation continued into the offseason as Detroit looked for a new head of hockey operations. Former general manager Steve Yzerman fielded calls about Larkin before leaving his position on July 15. Shawn Horcoff took over as interim general manager in September. On October 14, Horcoff described the situation as “status quo” and declined to discuss private conversations with Larkin’s representatives.
