The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has slammed the international media for “selective and unverified” reporting about the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane crash on June 12.

The AAIB statement came shortly after a report by American publication the Wall Street Journal claimed audio from the cockpit voice recorder of the crashed plane said the senior pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, had cut fuel to the engines, causing a mid-air loss of thrust.

The AAIB called out the international media’s “irresponsible” reporting and asked for patience while the final report is prepared and released. In a preliminary report released last week the bureau said the fuel supply switches – designed not to move by accident – had, in fact, moved from the ‘RUNOFF’ to the ‘CUT’ position, thereby stopping fuel supply
