The US military has launched airstrikes in Iran in retaliation for an Iranian missile attack targeting an American base in Jordan. These are the first American strikes on Iran since US President Donald Trump paused the bombing campaign last week to make room for negotiation to restart.
“The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East,” US Central Command said, noting the attacks began at 8 pm (0000 GMT).

The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump vowed to hit back “hard” at Iran.
“We’re going to beat the f***ing s**t of them. We’ll be hitting them hard. They are going to get a beating,” he told Fox News.
“It’s our turn,” he said, adding that Tehran’s acknowledgement of the attack was a mistake.

The pause in fighting was shattered by Iran’s missile attack on Jordan, prompting Trump to resume the military campaign five days later, after he put a pause on it last Friday.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has carried out military operations against US assets in Jordan, claiming it targeted an airbase as well as a command center. All of the missiles were intercepted, according to the US military.
The Iranian agency said that as long as the American threats will continue, the resistance from Tehran’s side is going to continue as well. It also asked US officials to stop their threatening language against the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, the naval forces of the IRGC said they have targeted three oil tankers that were trying to approach the Strait of Hormuz on a route that was not approved by the Iranian side.
