The Detroit Red Wings could be nearing a decision on Dylan Larkin, with ESPN’s John Buccigross reporting a possible trade within the next seven to 10 days. During Friday’s episode of Frankly Hockey, Buccigross told co-host Frank Seravalli that information he received the previous night pointed toward an upcoming deal in Detroit. When Seravalli asked whether Larkin was involved, Buccigross confirmed the center’s name. The Minnesota Wild have remained linked to Larkin, with speculation also connecting a potential deal to Quinn Hughes’ contract future.
John Buccigross Confirms Dylan Larkin Is the Red Wings’ Trade Target
Buccigross said he expected Detroit to make a trade soon but not identifying a destination or providing details about a possible agreement.
“I think there’s going to be a trade within 7 to 10 days in Detroit,” Buccigross said. “I got a little bit of information last night which tells me that we’re going to see a trade. As things are happening in the lineup that — that’s all I’m going to say.”

Seravalli then asked, “I’m not gonna ask you to spoil [those] droppings you’ve got, some crumbs. It has to be Larkin then, right? It’s not Edvinsson.”
Buccigross responded, “Yeah, Larkin. Larkin. That’s coming.”
Minnesota Wild Could Link Larkin Trade to Quinn Hughes Extension
Minnesota’s interest in Larkin has drawn additional attention because of his relationship with Hughes. The two players train together during the offseason, share an agent and win Olympic gold together. A potential reunion in Minnesota could also influence Hughes’ long-term plans with the Wild.
During the same discussion, Seravalli referenced reporting from The Athletic’s Michael Russo said, “I really think that if they get Larkin, Quinn [Hughes] signs, like, the next day.”
Buccigross responded, “I saw that, so maybe that’s that 7 to 10 days thing.”
Russo had offered his assessment on Daily Faceoff, saying, “I really think that if they get Larkin, Quinn [Hughes] signs, like, the next day.”
Larkin would address Minnesota’s need for a top-six center after recording 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games last season. However, Detroit’s reported asking price remains substantial. As per several reports, Red Wings wanted three or four assets, including two high-end prospects, an NHL-ready top-nine forward and a first-round pick.
Larkin’s $8.7 million annual cap hit and full no-trade clause would also factor into any potential deal.
