Virat Kohli is back on the cricket field, putting in the hard yards in the nets to best prepare for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Kohli, who only plays the 50-over format, does not get a lot of match practice as he has already retired from Tests and T20Is. Hence, he is often seen undergoing fitness and cricketing drills before important matches. On Sunday, a video surfaced on social media, in which Kohli could be seen practising hard with the white ball.

Kohli, who is yet to fly to New Zealand for the ODI series, will undoubtedly be under the spotlight against the Kiwis, especially as the chatter around his and Rohit Sharma’s places in the Indian team for next year’s World Cup continues.

Recently, New Zealand assistant coach James Pamment shared his views on Kohli’s place in the Indian team for the ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Pamment, who spent eight years with the Mumbai Indians as a fielding coach, has worked closely with Rohit Sharma, another veteran whose future has been a constant topic of discussion among fans and experts.

“Well, I think with all top players, when the time is coming towards the end of their careers, it is a conversation that is always had with them. Those guys have earned the right to make the decision on when they do want to move away,” Pamment said of Kohli and Rohit.

“If they have decided that the ODI World Cup in South Africa is a pinnacle event that they want to be at, then they should be supported to be there. Then it becomes about performance and contribution to the group. Now, I have never worked closely with Virat.

“I have watched him, obviously, very closely when I have been with the New Zealand team or with the Mumbai Indians. I have watched him and, to me, he is just the ultimate professional. So, he is the sort of guy that I would want in my environment the whole time because he is the ultimate professional,” Pamment explained.

The ODI series between India and New Zealand begins on November 04.
